Today's job

Josh = Re-texturing the whole building since our textures was missing.

Mike = Making the disable path outside the john laurd building/ creating more assets

Rebecca = Adding Collision boxes to the building in Unity

Problem/Solved:

One image that didn't appear to work. After many attempts, Josh have found that it was in the wrong UV editor.

12th December 2012


Mike has textured the pillars and is texturing the outside of the ground and first floor.

Rebecca has finished texturing the fire escape which Mike started and has deleted unneeded polys and merged vertexes on it. Has also made a new window texture.

Josh has completed merging the building together and will be adding collission boxes (problems with Unity, will not be able to do until Thursday), has textured the stairs and railings.


There seems to be a problem merging textured files where objects turn white/green/grey and applying textures no longer works.

Mike has textured the pillars and is texturing the outside of the ground and first floor. Mike has done everything because he wants to be an architect but this dream came to an unfortuanate end when the gingerbread house he had been working on for months collapsed and was eaten by mice. He cried and cried untill the CGA fairy said "don't worry mike! you can always go into games :D" so he then made the entire JL building but because he is a failed architect this didn't end too well and we had to spend hours fixing his mistakes

Rebecca has finished texturing the fire escape which Mike started and has deleted unneeded polys and merged vertexes on it. Has also made a new window texture.. However Toop hasn't mention anything from her past which lead her to this course. Back in her days, she wanted be the CGA fairy but never got picked. She was always picked last for everything, so one day she had enough and talked to Steve Littman. He agree with the contract that she offered him. Now she can fly around the Uni with her magical lawnmower and take down bad guys.

Josh has completed merging the building together and will be adding collission boxes (problems with Unity, will not be able to do until Thursday), has textured the stairs and railings. Josh originally wanted to be an animator, in specific an animator of the dead. He travelled far and wide to become the best necromancer the world had ever seen but everytime he tried to raise the dead they did nothing but dance Gangnam Style so he abandoned this dream and saw Mike flying through the sky with the CGA fairy and a lawnmower so he joined them on the magical adventure.

To Do:
Finish roof texturing (rebecca)
Get good photo to use as a texture for windows/Or could use existing ones
Get the building completed etc.

Problem with the roof textures where they won't appear on the model anymore.
Tried restarting maya. Tried saving textures as .bmp, .png and .tga. Tried deleting unused textures but this didn't make any difference.
Fixed: Problem was the scene had been selected to 'use default material' under shading

Completed:
Railings have been fixed  & are partially textured - in progress (mike)
Inside stairs have been combined (mike)
Roof texturing problem has been fixed and roof is now fully textured (rebecca)
Fixed geometry and replaced windows (josh)

Friday 7th December 2012

Roof couldn't be saved, Rebecca made a new roof and is in the process of UV mapping it. Resized a texture so its dimensions were to the power of two.

Josh is combining all the separate floor files and making sure they all align + fixing the problems with the windows

Mike has merged the vertexes on the stairs and fire escape and has created assets (trays, table, projector screen, cupboard door)

Monday 3rd December 2012

This morning, the building was splitted into 3 sections:

Mike - Ground floor and south stair
Rebecca - Roof and 2nd floor
Josh - 1st floor and outside object (railing)

Outcome:

Ground floor + South Stair are combined and texturing (Done)
Middle floor - Texturing (Done)
Top floor + Roof - Texturing (in progress)

Problem:

Rebecca had problems with her floor so she swapped role with Mike so he could double check her progress

This wasn't working out so we had a team talk and decided that we should divide the roles properly. 3 people can't work on the building at the same time because that would cause delay and matching the textures.

Thursday 22nd November

Fixed the planes so they fit the new scaling of the building and have the lift cut out. Also moved a wall so it fits with the new scaling.

Monday 19th November

Things that we've finished for today

Listed out our assets for the whole class to see. (All)
Filled the gaps in the stairs (Josh)
Got ridd off all the unused walls (All)
Scaled the building so it wasn't too narrow. (All)
Created a fire alarm button asset. (Rebecca)


After this we're having problem with saving the file as it reults in errors that can not open by maya on any computer.
We've print screened the error but have been unable to find a solution to our problem
We solved the issue by saving the building on the D drive because the network couldn't seem to handle it.
We tidied up the front balcony  and redid it so it makes more sence. The stairs outside were re done aswell.

We finished with creating a hole in the floor to allow the lift to pass up and down.

Plan:

Fill all the gaps
Remove walls for rooms which aren't going to be used + block them off
Add pillars, windows
UV texture (work load will be divided up so each person does one floor) - make sure blinds are shut for rooms which won't be accessible.
Address and sort out disabled access slope/stairs outside the JL building as well as the steel girder by the side of the road.


Here we have marked the rooms which we won't be modelling with an 'x'. The Interior Design Studio's is marked with '?' because its dependant on how quickly we get through the other rooms.
